Higher protein diets associated with greater feelings of fullness during weight loss

Dieters trying to stick to their diets may want to look no further than lean protein, according to two studies published in the prestigious journal Obesity. Including protein such as lean pork in three daily meals could reduce late-night desires to eat, increase feelings of fullness and decrease distracting thoughts about food, according to the research.

Children as young as seven have been admitted to hospitals for eating disorders. A peak support group has reported a doubling of calls about children under the age of 12 in the past decade. Being hit so early with these disorders also means malnutrition leading to retarded growth, osteoporosis, infertility and changes in brain structure say experts.

Target parents to tackle childhood obesity: Study

A new study has shown that educating parents on healthy eating could be more effective at reducing childhood obesity than physical activity. The study came from researchers from the universities of Newcastle and Wollongong who found that targeting parents rather than children is the key to combating childhood obesity. The study was funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Cephalon receives unsolicited proposal from Valeant

Cephalon, Inc. confirmed today that it received an unsolicited proposal from Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc., on March 18th to acquire the Company for $73 per share and a second unsolicited proposal on March 25th to either acquire the Company for $73 per share or to purchase Cephalon's non-oncology related assets for $2.8 billion. On March 29th, Valeant announced an unsolicited proposal to acquire all of the outstanding shares in the Company for $73 per share.

In a new study that appeared in the International Journal of Obesity, researchers have found that stress may affect sleep, mood and ultimately body weight. The study found that people with high stress and poor sleep were less likely to achieve a 10-lb. weight loss goal.

CryoLife, Inc., an implantable biological medical device and cardiovascular tissue processing company, and Cardiogenesis Corporation, a leading developer of surgical products used in the treatment of patients with refractory angina resulting from diffuse coronary artery disease, today announced that the boards of directors of both companies have approved a definitive agreement under which CryoLife will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Cardiogenesis for $0.457 per share.

Study links sleep and stress levels to weight loss

If you want to increase your chances of losing weight, reduce your stress level and get adequate sleep. A new Kaiser Permanente study found that people trying to lose at least 10 pounds were more likely to reach that goal if they had lower stress levels and slept more than six hours but not more than eight hours a night.
